Fall is here in Salt Lake City, and while temperatures are still relatively warm, you’ll soon have need of your heating system on a regular basis. We always recommend performing maintenance on your system now, before winter sets in. It gives you the time to schedule a session at your leisure, instead of rushing around in the face of a cold front, and the benefits it can bring will be with you all winter.
A maintenance session is designed to fulfill two purposes:
- Improving the heater efficiency. A number of little problems associated with wear and tear don’t merit a repair call in and of themselves. clogged burners, for example,m can be cleared up very quickly, as can loose bolts and dirty filters. But when you add them up, they can increase the strain on your heating system demonstrably. Addressing them in a maintenance session means that your system can do its job without having to expend quite so much energy, lowering your bills in the bargain. Furthermore, the reduced strain means a lowered risk of a breakdown in the middle of winter, letting you use your heating system with increased confidence.
- Catching serious problems early. A maintenance session can’t stand in for a formal repair call and if your heater is experiencing significant problems, you may need to schedule a second session. The good news is that a maintenance session give the technician a chance to check for those issues. Most of them give out warning signs well before they cause a breakdown, and by catching them early, you have a chance to fix them faster and (usually) at a lower cost than you would if you didn’t spot them early.
