Summer is officially here, and if you’re in the market to replace your old air conditioner with a new one, now is the perfect time to do it. Salt Lake City, UT has fairly mild summers when compared with the rest of the country, but you never know when a heat wave is going to knock us flat. Having a new system in place when they hit is a strong way to combat them while lowering your monthly bills in the bargain. But how can you tell if your old system is ready to be replaced? Here are 3 ways to give you some clue.
1. Check Your Monthly Bills
High monthly bills are usually a strong sign that your air conditioner is too worn out to continue, and while it may not be suffering any specific breakdowns, the money sunk into your energy costs can cost you far more over time. If your bills are inordinately high and no amount of repairs or maintenance can address it, it may be time for a new system.
2. One Repair Bill Too Many
No one likes paying repair bills and if your system doesn’t show signs of trouble, it can probably keep going through the summer season. But multiple repair bills coming in fast on top of each other, or even just a single repair bill that costs more than the system is worth, cold be a strong signal that you should schedule an air conditioning replacement session.
3. It’s Just Plain Old
An older system doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to replace it. In fact, if you maintain your air conditioner regularly, it could last many years after its warranty has expired. But if your system is more than a decade old, and it experiences the kind of problems described above, it’s a sure sign that you need a new system.
